A poem to my beloved aunt [Notes from the artist 5 - November 11, 2025]

New Mexico Desert

I recently came across a poem I wrote a couple of years ago to honor my aunt when she passed away. I always felt an affinity with her, but we didn't get to visit often since she lived in another state. She had a sensitive heart and shared my love for the beauty of the desert. I rarely write poetry and I don't usually post it so this is a vulnerable post about a vulnerable time. I hope it brings feelings of connection, comfort, and nostalgia for someone you have lost.

To my beloved aunt

Dear one:

I would meet with you

in a space beyond space

in a time beyond time

where we could be together,

...uncaring...unfettered...free.

beyond pain

beyond illness

beyond worry

beyond our sorrows and our cares.

We could just be together

in knowing

in understanding

in compassion.

Without words

without boundaries

without anything...

except the two of us

our souls; knowing,

understanding

and communicating.

Without words

without boundaries

without time.

In a space beyond space

and a time beyond time.

Together;

the way we were always meant to be.
